The Clam in Camber cafe

The Clam in Camber

Fabulous café just one minute’s walk from Looney Dunes

The Clam in Camber serves delicious breakfasts and lunches.  If you’re in need of a fry-up, this is the place to go but don’t expect the greasy spoon treatment. Far from it; the food is sourced from local suppliers so look out for…

  • Sausages and bacon from Jamie Wickens the butchers based in Winchelsea
  • Coffee from Coldblow
  • Bread, sourdough and cakes from the Whitehouse/Lazy Bakery in Rye High Street

We went for breakfast recently whilst waiting for guests to arrive. I had mashed avocado, tomato chutney and grated Comte cheese on toasted sourdough. Chris ordered the Clam Breakfast which is your full English for £9. Both were utterly delicious and consumed in less than a nanosecond.

The coffee (£2.50) is particularly good, smooth on the tongue with a good kick and supplied by Coldblow who are local coffee roasters. I had two lattes. Chris, who thinks he can give up coffee and tea for a year, had a Fentimans ginger beer (£2.50). Not my idea of a breakfast drink but lovely all the same.

We chatted to Ted the owner who told us there are plans afoot to open in the evenings for drinks (licence pending) and small plates of food rather that full meals.
