Looney Dunes is our own family holiday home perfectly located right in the heart of the popular seaside resort of Camber Sands just 3 miles from the beautiful Cinque Port of Rye in East Sussex. Despite being just a moment’s stroll from the famous 2-mile stretch of sandy beach and its best bars and restaurants, the house is a haven of tranquility even on the busiest of summer days. With views of the sand dunes from the sunny south-facing back garden and upstairs bedrooms, it really is a fabulous place to take a break with family, friends and even your dog.
Camber holiday home from home
Since we come on holiday here ourselves, the house is very well equipped. Pretty much everything you might need has been thought of. In addition to the usual facilities that you might expect to find, you’ll be in for a treat with original artworks, a whole wall of books in the living room (over 1,000 at the last count), a vintage Bang & Olufsen hifi system (with turntable and our record collection), a heap of board games, XBox360 (plus games) and loads of children’s DVDs and movies to keep them entertained whilst you’re enjoying a drink in the back garden – a total suntrap – watching the butterflies or the sun setting. The house is centrally heated throughout and enjoys a reliable superfast broadband connection through BT Infinity 2 at around 60 Mbps.
Sleeps 6 + cot
Our holiday home has 3 bedrooms; one at the front and two at the back. It sleeps 4 adults and 2 children (plus a cot). The master bedroom at the front has a double bed. The large bedroom at the back can be arranged either as two singles or joined together as a king-size double. The smaller, kids’ bedroom has 2 full-size bunk beds. In the spacious family bathroom (no bath) there is a large shower cubicle with power shower, much the best way to clean away all the fine sand that you bring back from the long day at the beach! On the landing the airing cupboard is well-stocked with towels.
Fully-equipped holiday home
There is plenty of room downstairs too. The living room has a sofa and 2 comfy chairs, a large TV with Freeview and DVD player, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves along the entire length of one wall, and French doors that open out onto the sunny patio. The galley kitchen is fully-equipped and leads into a bright conservatory with dining table and chairs. In the hall there is plenty of under-stair storage plus a well-stocked “honesty” larder for when you can’t be bothered to shop. There is also a downstairs WC and entrance porch for hats, coats, flip-flops and wellies.
Secure, sunny gardens & parking
The gardens must be our favourite part of our holiday home. The south-facing back garden is the proverbial stone’s throw from the sand dunes. It has a patio area with a large table, chairs and umbrella for al fresco dining. Beyond is a flat lawn surrounded by shrubs and flowers on three sides (and populated by many species of butterfly throughout the long summer days). The garden is fenced all around and is fully enclosed. To the side of the property you’ll find 2 sheds full of sun-loungers, bikes, garden games, a windbreak for the beach plus an assortment of buckets and spades. A high privet hedge in the front garden provides privacy from the cul-de-sac (so no passing traffic) and creates a natural goal for any penalty shoot-out! This garden is also very sunny and provides off-street parking for 2 cars (3 at a pinch).
